Alright just watched Man City-Everton, Cuse-WVU, and G-Tech-UNC, its time to move over to the main events.
4:35 – I’m not actually looking up at the television yet because I think that the game hasn’t started, and suddenly Tim Hightower is jogging into the endzone (Dreads flowin) after a 70 yard run… seems about right.
4:43 – Saints move the ball at will. Score on a short run. Seems pretty clear: stops are not going to be the norm in this game.
4:57 – Urban fumbles to Sharper… Saints predictably score on a TD Pass to Shockey shortly thereafter. 14-7 Saints.
5:02 – Warner/Wells almost fumble an exchange, Warner gets knocked down by Scott Fujita and throws a “Grossman pass” mid-hit that luckily falls incomplete. Before 3rd down, Warner calls timeout in the loud Superdome and then dumps it off to go 3 and Out… Just got reminded that the Cards’ punter is Ben Graham.
5:12 – Cardinals lose DRC… functionally ending any hope of stopping the Saints downfield, and then Reggie Bush pops a big one from midfield for a td. 21-7. I start coming up with jokes to downplay picking Zona.
5:16 – Kurt Warner gets jacked up for an 8 yd sack… and then they run on 2nd down… basically punting on the drive. We are one Saints TD from having Zona really “on the ropes”.
5:24 – But then the Cards manage to get a stop… Then a Warner to Breaston “impossible throw” throw… Momentum shift? I’m now thinking about all of the credit I will take for the Cards if they pull it out.
5:33 – Cards punch it in… The first time I actually consider it: Kenny Albert and Daryl Johnston are Fox’s #2 Crew… Who is on their #3 crew?
5:40 – They keep showing Cards #28 who is the “that guy” replacing Cromartie.. After a few slow Saints plays in a row, Brees throws a perfect pass to Colston for 20 yards or so, and then they nail a flea-flicker to Devery Henderson (whose fantasy line is always either 00000000000 or 1 catch for 71 yds and 1 TD). 28-14 Saints.
5:48 – Dagger time. Warner rocked and still down… interception. Cardinals are done if he’s off. Leinart is probably hung over.
5:51 – Warner alive and kickin on the sidelines… but it may be Leinart? Does “Sportsnation” resent/mock Leinart so much that Arizona won’t want him as their QB of the future? Seems like we have been moving towards that point for the past year or so… Still… let’s be fair… this guy is way better than Brady Quinn – not even close.
6:01 Colston TD. Leinhart in at QB. 30 Secs left in the half. 35-14 Saints. Apparently L-Fitz just caught his first reception, and the announcers are acting like that is the Cards’ problem… not… everything else. Looks pretty over unless we see Kurt in the 2nd half…
6:06 – Neil Rackers misses a field goal that doesn’t count… then pulls one of those optical illusion field-goals that is dead center but 5 yards short, and you don’t really believe they missed when the refs wave. The announcers continue their “anti late Timeouts on kicker freezing” crusade. My theory: don’t freeze the kicker… it is a way bigger psych-out not to – you don’t know if you are gonna be frozen or not.
6:10 – No [wikipedia]interest in the halftime show, switched to E! Channel to watch Office Space. There is so much bleeping that it sounds like you are watching some sort of foreign streaming video.
6:22 – Office Space is a great movie. Is Gary Cole one of the best “that guy”s of all time? How many Jennifer Aniston movies are better than this?
6:24 – Saints decide to punt after almost going for it on 4th and 3? Kurt Warner is back onto the field. Phil is substantiating mid-Chilis ad that Babyback Ribs are 3500 Calories. He is now plugging the “Eat this not that” series of books. Back to Office Space for a second – the hypnosis scene…
6:42 – We are now at the “if the Cards don’t score, its over” possession for the Cards after the N.O. FG. Were we really in that mode an hour ago?… yeah, probably. Saints 38-14.
6:46 – Tyler messages me to tell me D. Sharper heard our podcast and is playing with a chip on his shoulder as a result. Reggie Bush punt return touchdown. I’m watching office space. The commissioner of the more taste league is in it too… 45-14 Saints.
6:50 – Hyping the other NFC Game… I watched Inside the NFL this week (highly recommend it if you have some TV time to burn and are real into football) and discovered that Jared Allen isn’t just big into hunting… He’s basically a predator. He is going up to Canada to hunt wolves after the season but also enjoys bear hunting and thinks that hunting wild hogs with knives is the most fun. In this video, he spears an elk from a tree. How sick of a dude is this guy.
6:57 – We finally made it to the “Damn it feels good to be a gangsta” scene in the movie. I had to hate this song for over 3 years because of a college roommate who would walk in to rooms and say “Damn it feels good to be a gangsta”, but how well does this song hold up for old rap? For replay-ability, it has to be a top 10 90s rap song…
7:22 – If you read my post below about why the Cardinals are going to win, I almost dictate in reverse exactly how the game went. To watch about 30 minutes of today’s game, I streamed on ATDHE.net. If you don’t know about this already, you can watch any major sporting event live streaming for free from ATDHE. It’s pretty damn reliable. Sometimes, you get crazy eurotrasher announcers doing your games because you can’t pick your feed, but that actually becomes a positive thing (ESPN-America commercials are hilarious… just how everything is presented as you’ve never heard of it before… “Los Angeles Lakers Star Shooting Guard Kobe Bryant” as opposed to “Kobe and the Lakers”… type stuff)
7:31 – Flipped back to the game to see Matt Leinart in, and the announcers talking about how good the future is for the Cardinals in the NFC West. I have about that much respect for the 9ers too… Matt Leinart.
7:35 – To try to forget about the Cardinals game after I reminded myself that UNC has now lost to Georgia Tech, Clemson, and College of Charleston in a matter of days. Tyler Zeller (who himself is a pretty token stiff tall white guy) is out, and it hardy seems like Ed Davis and Deon Thompson can carry this team. Guys like Ginyard, Drew II, Graves, and Henson perhaps just haven’t turned out to be top flight talents like many of the 05 and 09 UNC guys. Just like Duke couldn’t dominate the ACC forever even when they could have had their pick of recruits for really more than 5-6 years, we may be seeing UNC going to the end of a similar run. A 5 Star grade and “Mr. Basketball” titles don’t always mean a kid becomes JJ Redick or Tyler Hansbrough. Point being, UNC looks like its dropoff has been substantial… so much so that it’s hard to see this team growing into a legitimate tourney threat later this year. Hopefully, this big and unathletic (as opposed to small and unathletic) Duke team can take advantage… maybe even win a game against Roy Williams this year…. or the ACC… or make a run in the dance… They definitely have a better shot than their rivals for the first time in a while.
7:49 – Everton really dominated Man City today… just playing with more precision and pace throughout. Landon Donovan looks a little lost sometimes on the right wing… like he just wasn’t totally into the flow of the game. He gave the ball away cheaply a couple of times, but his corner kicks were very well struck, including one that Marouane Fellaini put off of the crossbar. He also did do much of what he does best: makes creative touches and finds opportunities. As he spends more time with the team and in English football, he will more and more have a grasp for the nuances of Premier League Play, and his strengths will further be able to manifest themselves… seems like a good move for everybody so far.
8:05 – Thank god that is over with. 45-14… I’m heavily leaning towards jumping bandwagons immediately and predicting Saints SB ‘10… which I bet I stick to for about another… week? Ready to hear about how sick Peyton Manning is on CBS Pregame…
8:09 – “He grew up football royalty”… (Manning promo the second I turn the channel).
8:26 – This is awesome:
This guy and the Situation should collaborate on a training video. Imagine just seeing this dude in public filming this stuff…
Real,
Nick
